Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American actor and performer whose performance range earned her popular acclaim in a variety of genres ranging from period drama to thrillers and action. Johansson is the daughter of a filmmaker and an architect. She was raised by New York City. Her twin brother Hunter were the youngest of four siblings. She began to develop an interest in acting from a very young age, and began auditioning for commercials at age seven. She enrolled in the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute shortly after, and later went to the Professional Children's School, Manhattan to continue her training. When she was eight years old, Johansson starred alongside Ethan Hawke as Sophistry in Off-Broadway productions. And at age nine, she debuted in Rob Reiner's North (1994). Johansson made her debut on screen in Just Cause (1996), but she was Manny & Lo 1996 that was her breakthrough. The movie is about two young girls that are running away. The film, The Horse Whisperer, Johansson played a teenage victim of an horrific crash. The role she played in Ghost World brought her more recognition as the troubled teenager Rebecca. Smith's parents helped her with getting her first role in the acting world when she was just six. She was in an Dannon yogurt TV commercial. As with many actresses who started out she decided to hone her art in the realm of theater. In addition to other projects around the USA she made her debut on stage in Wildflower.
